Text Box: INCREASE IN ENTRY FEES : REASON
It seems if parents and participants are not well-informed about the reason for the recent increase in entry fees. Therefore it is important to put this matter into perspective.
Through the years the NEA kept entry fees as low as possible and relied on sponsorships to cover the remainder of the actual project costs. A substantial NLDTF grant from 2005 – 2007 enabled the NEA to develop and establish the project to the level where it is now. The focus of funding bodies are however  on development which now excludes the possibility of subsidising the entry fees of most participants in the near future.
The NEA has developed the traditional eisteddfod into a      powerful tool that supports the personal growth of participants by combining the magic of the arts and the human desire to be of significance.
The ongoing growth in numbers and the growing interest in the NEA Showcase events (as illustrated by completely sold out events during 2008) and the recent increase in entries for the NEA Awards show that parents value this power and the opportunities that the NEA provides.  In the final analysis: participating in the eisteddfod is not only about awards, but about the young performer’s sense of value and significance which is strengthened through participating in this process.

The NEA is very much aware of the impact of this increase, particularly in the current economical climate.  In order to soften the blow a number of new categories has been introduced: the Poetry Ensemble item allows 2 and more participants to present a poem as a group, thus reducing the cost per participant. The increase in entry fees for group items was also marginally in order to afford as many learners as possible the opportunity to participate and to experience the magic of the performing arts.

Text Box: The NEA difference
The NEA brand provides participants with a level of exposure that is not available at other local festivals. This exposure includes events like the new reality show SA GOT TALENT where the NEA provided the producers of the show with the names of top achievers in Eisteddfod 2008 and NEA Awards 2009.
Top achievers were featured in various media reports. The winning senior dance group was invited to perform for Glitterati,  a KYKNet  show.
The recent media coverage of Ying-Shan Tseng, a six year old blind pianist who received the award as Most Inspiring Performer in the NEA Awards 2009 raised interest even from abroad!
