Call for entries
The NATIONAL EISTEDDFOD ACADEMY is calling for entries from
2011's top achievers in music, dance and drama enter for the 2012 NEA Young Performer
Awards competition.
This competition
comprises of various elimination rounds and will end with the
final
round to be presented on
19 May 2012 @ the Joburg ProMusica Theatre. Various
cash prizes to the value of R50,000 is at stake, including a cash
prize of R10,000 for the Overall Best Performer.
This
competition is open for
Rules Only diploma level candidates in the NEA Eisteddfod of 2011 (or similar achievements in other events) may enter. Events will be scheduled at the ProMusica Theatre. A panel of adjudicators will adjudicate all events and their decision is final. No changes in the schedule will be allowed. (Click here for specific dates of Quarter and Semi-Finals Rounds.) The list of item(s) for which you may enter according to our records has been provided below. Kindly refer to the attached entry form for the appropriate Award Categories. Grades refer to the relevant school grade as in 2011. The same work as prepared and performed in 2011 should be presented.

The Process: §
First Round:
28 Febr. – 17 March 2012:
A panel of adjudicators will adjudicate all entries at the ProMusica
Theatre. §
Quarter Final Round:
17 – 22 March 2012 A limited number of participants will be identified daily at the First Round to participate in the Quarter Final Round. Invitations to these participants will be forwarded to cell numbers/e-mail addresses as provided on the entry forms. It is therefore important to ensure that this information is provided legible and with great care. §
Semi-Final Round:
7 - 10 May 2012 The Semi-Final Round will be presented as
evening concerts in the same style as the final round. Separate events will be presented for Classical Music, Contemporary Music, Dance and Drama. Only a limited number of participants will be invited to each of the semi-final rounds, therefore certificates will also be awarded at these event to top achievers in the previous rounds who did not make it to the semi-finals. The overall junior and senior winners of all sections will also be announced. §
Final Event:
19 May 2012 The overall junior and senior winners of all sections will finally compete for the overall awards on
19 May.

ON SALE AT COMPUTICKET FROM 16 APRIL
2012.


PARTICIPANTS IN
OTHER FESTIVALS DURING 2011 As a platform for youth development in the arts, the National Eisteddfod Academy also allows top young performers of diploma awards (90% and higher) in events that were not part of the NEA festivals during 2011 to enter for the NEA-Awards in the categories for which they have received diploma (or similar) awards (excluding all areas of reading and unprepared or improvised work).
